History
Konoura Station opened on 30 June 1922 as a station on the Japanese National Railways Rikuu West Line in Konoura-chō, Yuri District (present-day Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture). Its affiliation changed to the Uetsu Line (later the Uetsu Main Line) on 20 April 1924, and it became an unstaffed station with simplified consignment sales after freight handling ended in 1971 and parcel handling ended in 1981. It became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway in 1987, and in March 1998 a station building combined with the Konoura Town Library, Kopia, was completed and put into use. On 14 March 2026, Nikaho City's consignment sale of tickets was discontinued and the station became unstaffed all day.
