Location

History

Konbu Station opened on 15 October 1904 as an intermediate stop on the private Hokkaido Railway when the line was extended from Utasutsu (now Neppu) to Kozawa, completing through running between Hakodate and Otaru. After nationalisation on 1 July 1907, the route was redesignated the Hakodate Main Line on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended in September 1974 and parcel service in March 1982, when the station also became an unstaffed simple-commission stop. Crossing equipment and crew positions were withdrawn on 1 November 1986, and JR Hokkaido took over operations at the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. Full unstaffing followed on 1 April 1992, and station numbering S26 was introduced in October 2007.

Notes

Located in a mountainous area, the station once had a waiting facility in front of it for hot-spring visitors heading to the nearby Konbugawa Onsen and the Niseko hot-spring area.
