History
Komorie opened on 13 March 1988 as a JR Kyushu station on the Kagoshima Main Line. Although passenger service began only at the end of the Shōwa era, the site had served rail freight much earlier: from 1911 until shortly before the undersea Kanmon Tunnel opened in 1942, the Kanmon rail ferry ran a dedicated freight route from here across the Kanmon Strait to Shimonoseki, with freight cars loaded and unloaded onto the ships. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 7 June 2000 and SUGOCA contactless ticketing started on 1 March 2009. The staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi closed on 11 March 2022, and the station was made fully unstaffed on 18 March 2023. The structure consists of two side platforms; the up-direction platform connects to the station building by a foot-crossing on the Moji side. The station code is JA30.
Notes
The San'yō Main Line's Kanmon undersea tunnel passes almost directly beneath the station before curving north-west to cross the Kanmon Strait.
