History

Komachiya Station opened as Komachiya Stop, in Akaho-Komachiya, Komagane, Nagano Prefecture, on 26 December 1914, with the Ina Tramway's (renamed Ina Electric Railway in 1919) extension between Ina-Fukuoka Station and Akaho Station (now Komagane Station). On 1 August 1943 the Ina Electric Railway line was nationalized as part of the Iida Line and transferred to the Ministry of Railways (later Japanese National Railways), and at the same time the stop was upgraded to a station. Business-entrusted operation ended on 1 December 1971, leaving it unstaffed, and it became a JR Central station with the privatization and division of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. A temporary platform came into use on 19 January 2008, and on 13 December of the same year, as part of a land readjustment project associated with the Inan Bypass, the platform and waiting room were relocated and rebuilt from the west side of the tracks to the east side. The rapid service "Misuzu" has stopped at the station since the timetable revision of 17 March 2012.

Notes

Despite Komagane Station, the city's principal station, being right next door, this station's passenger boardings have exceeded those of Komagane Station every year since 2003.
