History
Kokubu Station is a tram stop on the Suizenji Line of the Kumamoto City Tram, operated by the Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau, served by the A and B system through-routes, in Kumamoto City's Chuo Ward. It opened on 3 September 1929, though records of the stop's original name at that time are incomplete. The stop closed on 28 December 1943 and reopened at an unrecorded later date. Its name comes from the surrounding neighborhood, itself named for the former provincial capital of Higo Province once sited nearby. The stop has opposing platforms on two tracks, reached by a pedestrian crossing, and today serves nearby Kumamoto Kokufu High School and local banks along the tram street.
Notes
A hotel near the stop, the Suizenji Comfort Hotel, is unrelated to Comfort Hotel despite the similar name.
