History

Koigakubo Station opened on 10 February 1955 on Seibu Railway's Kokubunji Line in what is now Tokura, Kokubunji City, Tokyo. For its first three decades, transfers between platforms were made by an at-grade pedestrian crossing; this was replaced by a footbridge on 20 October 1986. Barrier-free works completed on 20 February 2006 added escalators and a lift to the footbridge, with the escalator on the Higashi-Murayama-side platform set to up-only and the Kokubunji-side platform's escalator to down-only. Station numbering was introduced across the Seibu network in fiscal 2012, with Koigakubo assigned SK02. On 25 March 2025 the staffed ticket window closed and the station was reorganised as a remote-assistance station.

Notes

The area around Koigakubo has been used as the setting for a number of works of fiction: in Shinji Mizushima's manga Yakyū-kyō no Uta the home ground of the fictional Tokyo Mets, Kokubunji Stadium, is placed in Koigakubo, and Tokuya Higashigawa's comic detective novels, the Koigakubo Gakuen Tantei-bu series, revolve around the detective club of a fictional high school on the outskirts of Koigakubo.
