History
Kohata Station opened on 25 January 1896 with the Nara Railway's extension between Momoyama and Tamamizu; it became a station of Kansai Railway in 1905, came under the Imperial Railway Agency at nationalization in 1907, and was placed on the Nara Line in the 1909 line-name designation. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1972 and parcel handling on 20 October 1984, and the station passed to JR West at the privatization of Japanese National Railways in 1987. In a March 2001 timetable revision it was reduced from two platforms with three tracks to two platforms with two tracks, and ICOCA was introduced in November 2003. Station numbering JR-D07 was assigned on 17 March 2018, and a new station building came into use on 6 October of the same year. The section between Ōbaku and Rokujizō was double-tracked on 22 May 2022.
Notes
Although it shares the kanji 木幡駅 with the nearby Keihan Uji Line station, JR's stop is read 'Kohata' while Keihan's is read 'Kowata'.
