History
Kodomonokuni Station opened on 28 April 1967 as the terminus of the newly built Kodomonokuni Line, serving the adjacent Kodomonokuni children's theme park in Aoba-ku, Yokohama. The line traced back to a 1942 military ammunition-depot spur built from Nagatsuta Station. At opening the station was owned by the Kodomonokuni Association, a social welfare corporation; on 1 August 1997 the line's infrastructure license passed to Yokohama Minatomirai Railway, while Tokyu Railways operates the trains. On 29 March 2000 the line converted to ordinary commuter service, the present station building and bus rotary were completed, and the station became unstaffed. It is a ground-level terminal with a single dead-end side platform serving one track, monitored remotely from Nagatsuta Station.
Notes
From the station's 1967 opening, its platform was built long enough for 5-car trains so a special train could carry the then-Crown Prince and Princess — the Prince later reigned as Emperor and is now Emperor Emeritus Akihito — to the Kodomonokuni theme park, and so extra trains could run during peak visitor periods.
