History

Kiyama Station opened on 1 August 1961 on the Obama Line in the town of Wakasa, Mikatakaminaka District, Fukui Prefecture, 21.4 km from the terminus of the line. Following the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways the station passed to JR West. The layout is minimal: a single side platform serving one bi-directional track, with no station building and only a shelter on the platform; the station is unattended. Uwase Jinja stands near the station. In fiscal 2016 the station was used by an average of 304 boarding passengers daily.
