History

Kiyachō Station is a stop on the Iyo Railway's Jōhoku Line in Kiyachō 3-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with station number 10. It is used by lines 1 and 2 of the city tram (Matsuyama city lines). The Dōgo Railway's Shimizuguchi Station opened on 22 August 1895; the following year, on 27 September 1896, Shimizuguchi Station was abolished and relocated about 480 m toward Furumachi, reopening as Kiyachō Station. On 1 May 1900, following the merger of the Dōgo Railway and the Iyo Railway, it became a station on the Iyo Railway's Dōgo Line. On 3 April 1927, the Jōhoku Line opened between this station and Ichiman (present-day Kami-Ichiman), and because the Dōgo Line's section between Dōgo Station and Kiyachō was abolished, the remaining section was incorporated into the Jōhoku Line, making this station solely a station on that line. In 1951, when the Jōhoku Line's operating interval was shortened from 15 to 10 minutes, a passing loop was installed, and tablet block working was abolished sometime before 1971.

Notes

Kiyachō Station is a crossing-capable stop with two opposing side platforms serving two tracks, and the platforms on both the up and down lines are long enough for two cars to stop simultaneously, owing to the passing loop installed in 1951 when the Jōhoku Line shortened its operating interval from 15 to 10 minutes.
