History
Kitatakaiwa Station opened on 10 August 1923 as a station on the Tōhoku Main Line, serving what is now the city of Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture. Freight operations were withdrawn in April 1962, and the station has been unstaffed since May 1980. Following the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East), and on 1 December 2002 it came under the control of the third-sector Aoimori Railway Company. It now sits 21.0 km from the line's southern terminus at Metoki, and 638.3 km from Tokyo Station.
