History
Kitamori Station opened on 20 April 1961 as a station on the Japanese National Railways Hanawa Line in Matsuo Village, Iwate District. It passed to JR East at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, and on 7 November 2012 the JR East Morioka Branch Office announced that the station would be relocated next to Hachimantai City's new city hall. A new station building, moved about 500 metres toward Hiradate Station, opened on 14 March 2015 and was connected directly to the new city hall by a corridor. On 1 June 2018 its supervising station changed from Ōbuke Station to Morioka Station when Ōbuke Station was contracted out.
Notes
The station was relocated about 500 m southeast in 2015 and has the unusual configuration of being connected directly to Hachimantai City Hall's new building by a corridor; security for the station is also carried out as part of the city hall building.
