History
Kita-Yoshihara Station opened on 1 November 1965 as a station on Japanese National Railways' Muroran Main Line. It was built with construction costs borne entirely by Daishowa Paper for transporting employees of its Shiraoi Plant (now Nippon Paper's Hokkaido Mill, Shiraoi Plant), and it was also the first station in Hokkaido to have an overhead (bridge-type) station building spanning the tracks. At opening it was a staffed station with one station employee, but it switched to simplified consignment on 15 May 1980, and that consignment also ended in 2003. JR Hokkaido took it over at the 1 April 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways. Because of deterioration, the overhead station building was demolished starting around September 2019 and rebuilt as a ground-level station building.
Notes
Construction costs for the station were fully borne by the Daishōwa Paper Mill that requested it; it was the first elevated-walkway (kyōjō) station built in Hokkaido.
