History
Kita-Ōishida Station opened on 20 December 1960 on the Ōu Main Line in the town of Ōishida, Yamagata Prefecture. It was unstaffed from the outset, handling passengers only. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it passed to the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). When the Yamagata Shinkansen was extended to Shinjō on 4 December 1999 all local services were switched to electric multiple units, and as a carry-over from the days when every locomotive-hauled train and some railcar services had run past the station, one up and two down local trains were still booked to pass through without stopping; from 2 December 2000 every local train called at the station. On 7 April 2011 a section of the platform measuring roughly 15 by 3 metres collapsed in a Miyagi offshore earthquake.
Notes
It is an unstaffed station managed by Shinjō Station, with a log-cabin-style station building set facing the platform.
