Kita-Kume Station opened on 1 January 1967 as a station on the Iyo Railway's Yokogawara Line. On 1 July of the following year, 1968, a track was added on the south side of the platform, giving the station passing capability and making it staffed. Barrier-free construction work was completed in March 2018. It is located in Kita-Kume-chō, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, and its station number is IY14. The station has an island platform serving two tracks and is staffed; as a station with passing capability, some morning and evening trains pass each other here.

Because of the track layout at the platform, trains run on the right-hand track at this station.
