History
Kita-Kogane Station opened under the Railway Bureau on 18 March 1911 for operations and began full general service on 1 May that year, sited along the Mito Kaidō in the post town of Kogane-juku. With the establishment of the Japanese National Railways in 1949 it remained on the Jōban Line, and freight handling ended on 1 June 1960. After privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East. The south side was redeveloped from 1991, with the Picotti West building opening in December 1993 and the Picotti East building in March 1994; automatic fare gates entered service in December 1994. Suica began on 18 November 2001 and smart platform doors entered service on 30 September 2021.
Notes
Kita-Kogane is the birthplace of Matsumoto Kiyoshi: the drugstore chain began on the station’s south side as the small “Matsumoto Yakuho” shop and was headquartered here for years.
