History

Kita-Chigasaki Station is on JR East's Sagami Line in Chigasaki 3-chōme, Chigasaki, Kanagawa. It opened on 1 February 1940 as Nittō Station — a private station of the Sagami Railway, used only by employees of the nearby Nittō Seikō plant. It was nationalised on 1 June 1944 alongside the rest of the Sagami Line and renamed Kita-Chigasaki at the same time. Freight handling ended on 1 November 1986, JR East took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987, and automatic ticket gates were introduced on 24 February 1997. Suica IC-card service began on 18 November 2001. The station has a single island platform serving two tracks, with the station building on the west side connected to it by an overhead bridge.

Notes

Kita-Chigasaki opened in 1940 as a private station — passenger access was restricted to employees of the Nittō Seikō plant. It only became a public station with the 1944 nationalisation of the Sagami Line. The surrounding industrial estate still includes the Tōhō Titanium, AGC Seimi Chemical and Tōkai Carbon plants, and the area was once criss-crossed by dedicated freight sidings serving works such as Tōkai Carbon and Tōhō Titanium, all since removed.
