History

Kisa Station opened as a terminus on 15 November 1933, when the Ministry of Railways' Fukuen-kita Line (now the Fukuen Line) was extended from Takō Station (now Shiomachi Station). It became a through station on 15 November 1935, when the line was extended to Jōge Station. The Fukuen-kita Line was absorbed into the Fukuen Line on 28 July 1938; the station was placed under simplified contracted ticket sales on 1 December 1985, and passed to JR West at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The contracted ticket sales ended on 31 March 2008, leaving the station completely unstaffed. Service was suspended by the torrential-rain disaster of July 2018, resumed as far as Shiomachi Station on 4 October of that year, and the section through to Jōge Station was restored on 18 October. Heating and air conditioning were installed in the waiting room during renovation work in October 2025.
