History

Kii-Tonda Station opened on 20 December 1933 on what is now the Kisei Main Line, serving the town of Shirahama in Wakayama Prefecture. Operated by Japanese National Railways, it passed to JR West with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The station lies 272.5 km from the line terminus at Kameyama, on the section marketed as the Kinokuni Line. It consists of two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge, with no permanent staff on site. The Tonda River and Shirahama Municipal Tomita Junior High School are nearby.
