History

Kengun-Kōbanmae opened on 20 May 1956 as Kengun-Hashutsujomae Station on the Kumamoto City Tram Kengun Line. On 1 April 1995 it was renamed Kengun-Kōbanmae after the Kengun police box of the Kumamoto Higashi Police Station, which still sits beside the stop. It has the standard relative-platform layout reached via a pedestrian crossing and is stop number 25 on the Kengun Line. Morning Karashima-machi-bound trams often arrive packed from the Kengun-machi terminus, sometimes leaving passengers behind.
