History
Keisei Kanamachi Station opened on 21 October 1913 as 'Kanamachi Station' on the Keisei Electric Tramway extension from Shibamata, becoming the terminus of what is now the Keisei Kanamachi Line. The site succeeded an earlier human-powered tramway station of the same name, opened by the Taishaku Jinsha tramway on 17 December 1899. The station took its present name on 18 November 1931. On 25 June 1945 the operating company changed from Keisei Electric Tramway to Keisei Electric Railway, following the line's reclassification from tramway to railway. Track gauge was changed from 1,372 mm to 1,435 mm after the last train on 16 November 1959. After Keisei-Takasago Station's dedicated platform was completed, through services to the Keisei Main Line and the Keisei Oshiage Line ended on 4 July 2010, and all trains now shuttle between Keisei-Takasago and Keisei Kanamachi.
Notes
Despite its single-track dead-end layout, the station cannot be expanded: the cramped site forced both platform and track into a slight curve in order to fit a four-car platform length, and no land remains alongside the alignment for any further extension.
