History
Keisan Kagaku Center Station is operated by Kobe New Transit on the Port Island Line, serving the southern end of Port Island in Kobe's Chūō Ward. It first opened as Port Island Minami Station (ポートアイランド南駅). On 1 July 2011 it was renamed K Computer Mae Station after the K computer then under development at the neighbouring Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science. Following the decommissioning of the K computer, the station was renamed once more on 19 June 2021 to its current name, with a subtitle pointing visitors to the Kobe Animal Kingdom theme park and the institute's successor supercomputer, Fugaku.
Notes
The station's name has changed twice in a decade in step with the supercomputers at the nearby Riken institute: in 2011 it became K Computer Mae after the K computer, and in 2021, after K was decommissioned, it took its present name from the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science, carrying a subtitle that refers to the Kobe Animal Kingdom theme park and the supercomputer Fugaku.
