History

Keihan-yamashina Station (OT31) is a Keihan Keishin Line stop in Yamashina-ku, Kyoto, standing immediately in front of the JR Tōkaidō/Kosei lines' Yamashina Station and beside the Kyoto Subway Tōzai Line's Yamashina Station (T07). It opened on 15 August 1912 as Bishamondō-michi Station on the Keishin Electric Tramway, was renamed Yamashina-eki-mae on 13 August 1921, and was moved 70 m towards Kyoto on 12 April 1934, when passing loops gave it two island platforms and four tracks on which local trains could be overtaken. It became a Keihan Electric Railway stop once more in the 1949 separation from Keihanshin Kyūkō, and the current name, Keihan-yamashina, dates from 1 April 1953. In 1973 the layout was reduced to two opposed side platforms, and in 1996 the platforms were extended from two- to four-car length in work tied to the Tōzai Line's opening the following year.

Notes

Because Keihan-yamashina stands immediately beside the Kyoto Subway Tōzai Line's Yamashina Station, the subway station does not sell connecting tickets to the Keihan Keishin Line via Misasagi Station; in practice it is neighbouring Misasagi, rather than Yamashina, that acts as the interchange between the subway and the Keishin Line.
