History
Keibajōmae Station is an elevated Kitakyushu Monorail station in Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyūshū, next to Kokura Racecourse and the University of Kitakyushu, with station number 08. It opened on 9 January 1985 as part of the original monorail line. In 1999 the station was extended to coincide with the refurbishment of Kokura Racecourse: the up-direction (Kokura-bound) platform was widened and a ticket gate and escalator were added on the racecourse side. The mono SUGOCA IC card became usable on 1 October 2015. The station is linked directly to the racecourse grandstand by a through passage, and on the opposite side to the racecourse's third car park, a multi-storey structure.
Notes
Because the 1999 extension widened only the up-direction (Kokura-bound) platform, that platform is noticeably wider than the one serving the opposite direction; the same work added a ticket gate and escalator on the racecourse side, and users of the racecourse's third car park cross through the station concourse.
