History

Kawaramachi Station opened on 30 January 1929, when the Ise Electric Railway's line between Yokkaichi and Kuwana opened. It became a station of Kinki Nippon Railway on 1 June 1944, following the Sangū Express Electric Railway's merger with Ise Electric Railway on 15 September 1936 and the formation of Kansai Express Railway on 15 March 1941. PiTaPa became usable on 1 April 2007, and as a result of elevation works underway since 2010, the down line was elevated on 25 October 2014 and the up line on 8 May 2016. The subsidiary station name "Home of Banko Ware" came into use at the same time as the up line's elevation. It is an elevated station with two opposing side platforms serving two tracks, with a platform effective length of five cars; the station number is E20.

Notes

The station adopted the subsidiary name "Home of Banko Ware" to coincide with the 2016 elevation of the up line, and serves as the gateway to the Banko ware pottery-producing area known for its teapots and earthenware hot pots.
