History

Kawageta Station opened on 4 August 1899 as a freight station of the Ganetsu Railway, and began passenger service the following year on 3 November 1900. It became a government railway station with the nationalization of the Ganetsu Railway on 1 November 1906. It is located at Shinmachi, Kawageta, Inawashiro, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, and is now a station on JR East's Ban'etsu West Line. On 11 May 1913 the Nihon Iō Numajiri Railway (later the Bandai Kyūkō Electric Railway) opened with this station as its starting point, but it was suspended on 14 October 1968 and abolished on 27 March 1969. Freight handling ended on 10 September 1978, and parcel handling ended with the introduction of CTC on 10 March 1983, leaving the station unstaffed; it became a JR East station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.

Notes

From 1913 to 1968, the Nihon Iō Numajiri Railway (later the Bandai Kyūkō Electric Railway) branched off from this station, and Kawageta Station also served as that line's starting point.
