History
Katsuyamachō Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōnan Line in Katsuyamachō 2-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 18. It is used by city tram (Matsuyama City Line) routes 1, 2, 3, and 5. It opened on 1 September 1911 as the Jōnan Line's Mitakaramachi Station, and on 16 November of the same year the Dōgo Line's (former Dōgo Railway's) own Mitakaramachi Station also opened. On 2 May 1926, the Dōgo Line station was abolished when the Dōgo Line section between Ichibanchō and Dōgo stations was abolished. A traffic circle was installed in front of the station in 1948, then removed and replaced with traffic signals at the intersection in 1958; safety zones were installed between 1961 and 1966; the station was renamed Katsuyamachō Station in 1967; and in 1981 the safety zone for Ōkaidō-bound trains was relocated from the north side of the intersection to the west side.
Notes
Because the Katsuyama intersection slopes from northeast to southwest, Katsuyamachō Station itself sits on a grade, and from here toward Kami-Ichiman Station the line climbs a fairly steep slope up the alluvial fan of the Ishite River. The station has two opposed platforms serving two tracks, both with safety zones, and platforms long enough for two-car trains to stop.
