History

Katsuno Station, in the town of Kotake in Fukuoka Prefecture, opened on 13 February 1901 as a freight-only stop on the Kyushu Railway, which had acquired the line in 1897 on merging with the Chikuho Railway — formerly the Chikuho Kogyo Railway, which had first opened the track on 30 August 1891. The Kyushu Railway was nationalized on 1 July 1907, bringing the station under Japanese Government Railways. On 12 October 1909 the station became part of the Chikuhō Main Line, and on 21 July 1912 it was upgraded to handle passenger services. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987 control passed to JR Kyushu.
