History

Kashimadai Station opened on 1 March 1892 as a general station. Freight handling ended on 1 July 1972, leaving it a passenger-only station, and in October 1978 it was designated an express-train stop in recognition of its role drawing passengers from neighbouring towns. Parcel handling was discontinued on 1 February 1984, and the station passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 20 March 2003 and Suica IC service began on 26 October 2003. A free east-west passage and an elevated station building entered service on 8 November 2015, replacing the older ground-level structure. The dedicated ticket office (Midori no Madoguchi) closed on 30 November 2022.
