History

Karakida Station opened on 27 March 1990 as the terminus of the Odakyu Tama Line, located in Tama, Tokyo. The station lies on the route planned for a further extension from Odakyu Tama-Center toward Sagamihara, and came about when a petition from local residents — who had given up land for a refuse incineration plant and other facilities under the Tama New Town development plan — met Odakyu's own need to secure depot land, leading the company to agree to a station alongside it. Romance Car limited-express “Homeway” and express services began calling here on 2 December 2000, and on 17 March 2018 the introduction of rapid express and commuter express services brought a major timetable change. Direct services to and from the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line resumed on 15 March 2025.

Notes

The platform is mostly in Nakazawa rather than in Karakida itself; only the station office and adjacent commercial space sit within the Karakida district whose name the station bears.
