History

Kanomata Station is an Ishinomaki Line stop in the city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, operated by JR East. The station opened on 28 October 1912 as a general station of the private Senpoku Light Railway, becoming part of the nationalized rail network in 1919. Freight handling ceased in 1971 and parcels in 1984. The station was absorbed into JR East at the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987 and lost its staffed status in April 2005. A new station building entered service on 26 February 2010. Operations were halted by the 11 March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and services through the station resumed on 19 May 2011, when the Maeyachi–Ishinomaki section reopened.
