History

Kanō Station opened on 2 June 1914 as Arata Station, built by the Mino Electric Tramway on what is now the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line. Service was suspended in 1944 and resumed under the current name on 10 January 1958. It is the second Meitetsu station named Kanō: an earlier Mino Electric Railway station of that name, on the Kasamatsu Line, closed on or before 1 April 1942, and a still earlier station of the same name, opened in 1887, was later renamed Gifu Station. The station has one ground-level island platform with two track faces, reached by a level crossing, and is unstaffed. Only local trains call today, between Chajo and Meitetsu Gifu stations, about 98.7 km from Toyohashi.

Notes

Kanō is the least-used station on the entire Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line, yet the 0.4 km gap to neighboring Chajo Station is the shortest between any two stations on the whole Meitetsu network.
