History
Kannon Station opened on 5 July 1923 in Maejuku-chō, Chōshi, Chiba Prefecture, as a station on the Chōshi Electric Railway's Chōshi Electric Railway Line. It was relocated to its present site in 1925. In February 1976 a company-run taiyaki shop opened within the station premises and became a long-standing local specialty. On 27 December 1991 the station building was remodeled to resemble a Swiss mountain railway station, and this Western-style building with its large roof remains in use to this day. A naming-rights scheme was introduced on 1 December 2015, and the station began using a nickname bearing the name of its sponsor, the builder Fuji Kōmusho. The taiyaki shop closed on 31 March 2017.
Notes
From 1976 to 2017, a taiyaki shop run directly by Chōshi Electric Railway operated inside the station building, and the station also offered a service in which staff delivered taiyaki to passengers already aboard trains on the platform at Kannon Station.
