History
Kanmonkaikyō Mekari Station opened on 26 April 2009 as the terminus of the Heisei Chikuho Railway's Mojikō Retro Kankō Line (Kitakyushu Bank Retro Line). It is the northernmost station in Kyushu, a staffed station with one platform serving one track, which also sells reserved-seat tickets. Naming rights had originally been planned to determine the name, but there were no applicants, and the name was decided based on the station's location in Mekari Park. Its provisional name during planning was Mekari Park Station. Although a terminus, the track continues beyond it as a non-revenue transfer line, passing the former site of Amagakubo Station on the old Kitakyushu City Port and Harbor Bureau's Tanoura public harbor railway, to the car depot at Setomachi.
Notes
The Sanyo Shinkansen's Shin-Kanmon Tunnel runs directly beneath the station, and an EF30-class electric locomotive and an Ohafu 33-class passenger car are preserved beside the station.
