History

Kaneshima Station is a station on the Nishitetsu Amagi Line in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, operated by Nishi-Nippon Railroad and numbered A06, about 9.4 kilometers from Miyanojin, where the line originates. It opened on 8 December 1921 as a stop on the Mitsui Electric Tramway, which was absorbed by the Kyushu Railway in 1924; on 19 September 1942 that company in turn became part of the Kyushu Electric Tramway, renamed Nishi-Nippon Railway three days later. The station building was rebuilt in 1964. It is a ground-level station with a single island platform serving two tracks, reached by a level crossing, plus a siding used to stable maintenance vehicles; a centralized management system made it unattended from 1 April 2021.

Notes

Kaneshima Station is the nearest station to the Tanushimaru Fireworks Festival, held every year on the last Sunday of August, about a 20-minute walk from the station.
