History

Kanayasawa Station opened on 10 June 1953 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways Ōminato Line in what is now Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture. It came under JR East's operational control on 1 April 1987 at the privatisation of JNR, and the Eki-net Q Chiket service started on 1 October 2024. The station has a single ground-level side platform serving one bidirectional track, with no station building beyond a small rain shelter, and remains unattended. It is located 47.7 km from the Ōminato Line's terminus at Noheji Station and faces Mutsu Bay alongside National Route 279.
