Location

History

Kamonomiya Station opened on 22 December 1983 with the start of the New Shuttle (Saitama New Urban Transit Ina Line), with station code NS03. At the time the station was in Ōmiya City. On 1 May 2001 Ōmiya merged with Urawa and Yono to form Saitama City, and on 1 April 2003, when Saitama became a designated city, the station became the nearest stop to the new Saitama City Kita-ku ward office. The Suica IC card became usable on 18 March 2007, with a single simple-IC reader installed at the time. Lifts connecting the ground-level concourse to both platforms entered service on 22 April 2011, completing the station's accessibility upgrade. From around 2008 onwards, redevelopment to the south of the station and the construction of high-rise apartments brought a steep rise in passenger numbers.

Notes

The Ōmiya Kamonomiya post office by the station is built in a distinctive log-cabin style, and it is the motif used on the New Shuttle's official Kamonomiya Station stamp.
