History
Kamiyasu Station, located in Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima, opened on 20 August 1994 as part of the inaugural Astram Line operated by Hiroshima Rapid Transit. Its construction was overshadowed by a serious accident on 14 March 1991, when an elevated guideway girder collapsed nearby during work, killing fifteen people and injuring eight. A memorial to that disaster stands close to the station. An island platform serving two tracks sits above a concourse with ticket gates one level down; the station colour is purple. The station was a stop for the express trains introduced in the timetable revision of 20 March 1999, and those expresses were abolished in the revision of 20 March 2004. PASPY IC cards were accepted from 8 August 2009.
Notes
A memorial stone for the 1991 girder-collapse accident, which killed fifteen people during the Astram Line's construction, stands close to the present station entrance.
