Location

History

Kamiyama Station traces its origin to a signal stop opened on 28 September 1944 during the Pacific War. It was promoted to a full station on 20 January 1955 in what is today the city of Agano in Niigata Prefecture, on the Uetsu Main Line. Parcel handling ended on 1 September 1972, at which point the station was destaffed. It passed to JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and accepted Suica from 15 March 2008. The station originally had two opposed side platforms, but the passing loop was lifted in the mid-1990s and only one side platform remains in service for a single bi-directional track.

Notes

A sudden gust of wind in the station yard on 5 February 1970 overturned the brakevan of a freight train, injuring the two trainmen riding inside.
