History
Kamiyachō Station, on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line in Minato ward, Tokyo, opened on 25 March 1964 under the Teito Rapid Transit Authority. The station carries the line code H-05 and takes its name from the historical Kamiyachō district, which was absorbed into the present Toranomon neighbourhood in 1977. On 27 January 1968 a fire broke out aboard a Tobu 2000 series train at the station. The Tokyo subway sarin gas attack took place on 20 March 1995, and the station was frequently mentioned in news reports in the aftermath. With the 2004 privatisation of the TRTA, station operation passed to Tokyo Metro, the current operator.
Notes
The station preserves the name of the former Kamiyachō district, which was merged administratively into Toranomon in 1977 — thirteen years after the station opened.
