History

Kamiōoka Station opened on 1 April 1930 as a Shōnan Electric Railway (now Keikyū) stop. Passing loops entered service on 15 December 1951, and the original Keihin Department Store building was completed on 12 April 1963. The Yokohama Municipal Subway connected on 16 December 1972. A new mixed-use building "Yume Ōoka" opened on 1 October 1996 housing Keikyū Department Store, with Keikyū's elevated platforms following in May and June 1997. Platform-edge doors were installed on the subway side in July 2007 and on the Keikyū side in late 2019 and early 2020. The district around the station is designated one of Yokohama's principal living hubs, a status formerly termed a city sub-centre.

Notes

Yuzu's hit song "Natsuiro" has served as the Keikyū platform approach melody since 25 November 2008; Yuzu are from Okamura, in neighbouring Isogo Ward.
