History

Kami-Ichiman Station is an Iyotetsu stop in Katsuyamachō 2-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 16. It opened in 1913 as Ichiman Station under the Matsuyama Electric Tramway, and on 25 March of the same year the Iyotetsu Dōgo Line's own Ichiman Station also opened. On 1 April 1921, the Matsuyama Electric Tramway merged into Iyotetsu, and Ichiman Station became a stop of that company. On 3 April 1927, the Jōhoku Line section between Kiyachō and this station opened, and the station became a single-track branch point. It was renamed Kami-Ichiman Station in 1929, and the Jōhoku Line's single-track branch was upgraded to a double-track branch sometime before 1966. On 1 December 1969, the Jōhoku Line station building was closed as part of a track realignment that began the present routes 1 and 2 (the loop line), and that section passed from the Jōhoku Line to a Jōnan Line branch (later a connecting line). On 26 May 1972, the Katsuyamachō Underpass, Ehime Prefecture's first pedestrian underpass, opened, and in September 1996 the track was relocated to the center of the road.

Notes

Before the loop line opened in 1969, Kami-Ichiman Station had a station building where tickets were sold, and above the building was even an observation room used for operating the points, but the building was demolished when the loop line opened. The site subsequently became an Iyotetsu-operated parking lot and later a high-rise condominium. On 26 May 1972, the Katsuyamachō Underpass, Ehime Prefecture's first pedestrian underpass, opened.
