History

Kami-Wakuya Station opened on 1 August 1957 as a station on the Japanese National Railways (JNR) Ishinomaki Line. From its opening it was an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passengers. It became a station of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, and Eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, located at Okina, Kamon, Wakuya-machi, Tōda District, Miyagi Prefecture, an unstaffed station managed by the Kogota General Center (Kogota Station). Kesennuma Line trains through-running from Maeyachi Station also stop there.

Notes

The rapid service "Minami-Sanriku," which operated before the earthquake disaster, passed through this station without stopping.
