History
Kami-Suwa Station opened on 25 November 1905 in the city of Suwa, Nagano, when the then Railway Bureau extended the Chūō Main Line between Fujimi and Okaya. The present station building was completed in March 1950, and a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket window was added in August 1967. Freight handling ended in January 1984. Operation passed from Japanese National Railways to East Japan Railway Company on 1 April 1987 at privatisation, and Suica became usable in April 2014. From the March 2019 timetable revision one Azusa limited express in each direction ran through without stopping; from the March 2022 revision every limited express called here again.
Notes
Platform 1 carries a foot bath fed by Kami-Suwa Onsen, installed in 1986 as an open-air bath and refurbished into its current form in July 2002.
