Location

History

Kami-Iijima Station is a station on the JR East Ōu Main Line at Iijima Nezumida, Akita City, Akita Prefecture; Oga Line trains through-running from Oiwake Station also stop there. It was established on 28 September 1944 as the Ministry of Transport and Communications' Kami-Iijima signal station, but was abolished once on 11 July 1949. It was re-established as a signal station on 10 April 1954 and upgraded to a station, opening as Kami-Iijima Station, on 10 February 1964. It was a petition station whose residents bore a construction cost of 3.9 million yen, and it was unstaffed from opening. It became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987. It became a stop for rapid trains from 17 March 2018, and the Suica IC card became usable there from 27 May 2023.

Kami-Iijima Station is a petition station built with local residents bearing the 3.9 million yen construction cost, and it has been operated as an unstaffed station continuously since opening.
