History
Kamase Station opened on 1 June 1952 as a petition station of Japanese National Railways. It was built to coincide with the assignment of KiHa 41000-series railcars to the Hitoyoshi depot and the start of their operation, and it has been unstaffed since opening. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, becoming a Hisatsu Line station. It has one side platform serving one track atop an embankment, has no station building, and is equipped with a waiting shelter of a design very similar to that at the nearby Nishi-Hitoyoshi Station. Located at Kamase, Sakamoto-machi, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, it is a mountain-valley station looking across the Kuma River and National Route 219 to a settlement on the opposite bank.
Notes
It is a petition station with no station building, its single platform and track set atop an embankment, and its waiting shelter is of a design very similar to that at Nishi-Hitoyoshi Station, also on the Hisatsu Line.
