History

Kamachi Station opened on 1 October 1937 in Kamō, Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture; its operating company merged with the Kyushu Electric Tramway on 19 September 1942 and took the name Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu) three days later, and the station is now T37 on the Tenjin Ōmuta Line. Until the 2005 municipal merger it was the only railway station in Yanagawa City. The nimoca IC card came into use on 18 May 2008, and on 22 March 2014 the station's window hours were shortened (it had previously been staffed from first to last train). Station numbering was introduced on 1 February 2017, and on 1 April 2021 the introduction of the centralised station management system made the station unstaffed all day.

Notes

Kamachi has two opposed ground-level side platforms with seven-car effective length and is unstaffed. The station building and ticket gate sit at the southern (Ōmuta-side) end of the Fukuoka-bound platform, with the Ōmuta-bound platform reached by an in-station level crossing. Just south of Kamachi the Tenjin Ōmuta Line becomes single-track as far as Hiraki.
