History

Kajiki Station opened on 10 June 1901, built by the Railway Operations Bureau as part of the line running south from Kokubu (the present Hayato) to Kagoshima. The original station building was destroyed in the Kajiki air raid of 26 April 1945 and replaced by a reinforced-concrete structure on 25 March 1952. Freight handling other than less-than-carload traffic ended on 1 April 1972, and the remaining less-than-carload business ended on 1 October 1974; parcel service ended on 14 March 1985. The station passed to JR Kyushu at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. SUGOCA service began on 1 December 2012 and a Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened on 1 February 2014. The station returned to direct JR Kyushu operation on 1 October 2023.

Notes

On 20 October 1972 an Imperial train carrying the Emperor and Empress, attending the 27th National Sports Festival, ran the Kajiki–Kagoshima section.
