History

Kaihotsu Station opened on 25 April 1921 as a station of the Toyama Prefectural Railway in what is now the city of Toyama. It became a Toyama Chihō Railway station on 1 January 1943 and now belongs to the Kamidaki Line, 4.4 kilometres from the line origin at Minami-Toyama. Freight handling ceased on 1 August 1969. The station once had two platforms serving four tracks, with a passing loop for trains to cross, but was reduced to a single side platform, with the former platform still visible on the ground. A wooden station building survives, and the station, formerly staffed under contract, was already unattended as of 1 April 2017.
