History

Kaihimmakuhari Station opened on 3 March 1986 as a station of Japanese National Railways' Keiyō Line, and passed to JR East with the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. From the 16 March 1991 timetable revision it became a rapid-service stop, and platforms 2 and 3 were added on 1 December 1995. From the 2 December 2000 timetable revision selected Wakashio and Sazanami limited-express trains began calling, making the station the only intermediate stop on the Keiyō Line served by a limited express. Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001, the Perie Kaihimmakuhari retail complex opened in stages from March 2013, and the Park Exit entered service on 22 March 2025.

Notes

Kaihimmakuhari is the only intermediate stop on the JR East Keiyō Line at which limited-express trains call: selected Wakashio and Sazanami services began stopping there with the 2 December 2000 timetable revision, as the surrounding Makuhari New City filled in. Today the Wakashio calls at the station, while Sazanami services pass through.
